The latest development from Strong Acid Soundsystem.

When thinking of names for my imaginary soundsystem, I wanted something that created strong imagery in every aspect of the idea. The acronym S.A.S appealed to me as I could use it to satirise military propaganda and advertising, and the project began to take shape.
This poster subverts the classic 1914 World War I recruitment poster that claimed ‘Your Country Needs You’. I’ve replaced Lord Kitchener with my Hannya from the S.A.S logo and edited the existing text prompts to reflect my personal values and that of free party culture. The flags along the top of the poster are taken from oldschool UK rave flyers in the book RAVE ART by Chelsea Louise Berlin.
The original military usage of this propaganda encouraged primarily young, working class men to enlist in the army and march to their deaths. This idea of patriotically defeating some common enemy and returning home victorious is still used today, recruiting the same young, working class men to be shipped off to be cannon fodder in wars that the British armed forces were instrumental in starting - I reject this propaganda in its entirety. My reinterpretation of this poster, as an invitation to dance in freedom and unity, strikes back at these forces of oppression and encourages acceptance in all forms.
